Wacom Intuos troubleshooting … bad cable

So here I was, ready to enjoy my brand new Intuos 5 graphic tablet (received as an early birthday present).

It was unwrapped, software and drivers installed, plugged into my machine… and nothing.
No LED light indicating activity. No cursor. And of course, no touchpad.

A quick look under the system logs indicated errors with ‘being able to enumerate the USB device’. A ‘repair permissions’ later (from Disk Utility… always useful anyways), the problem was still happening.

I was about to call it a night when I decided to try it on my laptop… and it worked! LEDs, pen, touchpad. The culprit was a faulty factory cable. Using another cable with my laptop made it work… and the same cable made it work as well on my desktop.

Once again, a computer related issue comes down to a variation of ‘Is it plugged in?’.
