{"id":1929,"date":"2013-01-07T11:08:52","date_gmt":"2013-01-07T16:08:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alquier.org\/linfa\/work\/?p=891"},"modified":"2013-01-07T11:08:52","modified_gmt":"2013-01-07T16:08:52","slug":"synchronizing-contacts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.alquier.org\/laurent\/sites\/2013\/01\/07\/synchronizing-contacts\/","title":{"rendered":"Synchronizing contacts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few tips to synchronize contacts between iOS, MacOS, Gmail and Outlook.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use Google as a common thread across platforms and devices<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.labnol.org\/software\/sync-outlook-contact-with-gmail\/20422\/\">GOSyncMod <\/a>is a standalone utility on Windows to synchronize contacts between Outlook and Gmail.<\/li>\n<li>On iOS and MacOS, <a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2012\/09\/27\/google-introduces-an-easier-way-to-sync-gmail-contacts-to-your-iphone\/\">use a CardDAV account<\/a> to synchronize your contact with Google.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once all lists are in sync with Google Contacts, these tools can help with clean up and merging of your contacts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 13px\">Google Contacts has a built-in utility to merge duplicates<\/span><\/li>\n<li>On iOS, the <a href=\"http:\/\/dottech.org\/78910\/multi-edit-contacts-manager-can-fix-organize-and-backup-your-contacts-ios\/\">MultiEdit Contact Manager <\/a>app has nice features to merge duplicates, import details from Facebook, and update missing fields such as email address \u00a0and birth-dates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Finally, to actually use your contacts list more efficiently than wha tthe default apps allow:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2012\/10\/19\/brewster-the-smart-contacts-app-that-wants-to-rule-them-all-now-conquering-europe-too\/\">Brewster <\/a>is an iOS app that links up contact information from multiple social networks and turns your contact list into a visual mosaic of faces. It also identifies trends and notifies you of changes in your contacts.<\/li>\n<li>Another possibility I tried is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xobni.com\/download\/gmail\">Smartr <\/a>for iPhone (from Xobni), which provides similar features as Brewster but felt a little less useful (relies a lot more on search as opposed to browsing contacts).<\/li>\n<li>I will give <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cobookapp.com\/\">Cobook <\/a>a try as well, as it is available as a replacement of the default Contacts application for both iOS and MacOS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few tips to synchronize contacts between iOS, MacOS, Gmail and Outlook.
