{"id":64,"date":"2007-05-15T19:44:19","date_gmt":"2007-05-15T19:44:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alquier.org\/linfa\/play\/2007\/05\/15\/how_to_make_oblivion_closer_to\/"},"modified":"2007-05-15T19:44:19","modified_gmt":"2007-05-15T19:44:19","slug":"how_to_make_oblivion_closer_to","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.alquier.org\/laurent\/sites\/2007\/05\/15\/how_to_make_oblivion_closer_to\/","title":{"rendered":"How to bring Oblivion closer to the Morrowind experience ?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;d say you can get very close to the same gaming experience.<\/p>\n<p>I still miss the customizable interface from Morrowind, the text based storytelling (a lot richer than voice acting) and levitation also to some extend (I know there is a mod for that but I got used to not having it by now) but that&#8217;s about it.<\/p>\n<p>First, some features in Oblivion are real improvements on Morrowind:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; better graphics (from spell effects to lush environments)<br \/> &#8211; more realistic NPCs (Radiant AI is not perfect but it is an improvement over static NPCs from Morrowind)<br \/> &#8211; physics effects (makes the world more tangible even if it is not perfect as well)<br \/>&#8211; mounts (although lacking the capability to fight from a horse)<\/p>\n<p>The mods I currently have eliminated all of the things I found annoying with Oblivion :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>fast travel (disabled by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=4520\">Cyrodiil Transportation Network<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>world wide leveling with you (replaced by static levels in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=14358\">OOO<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>game console interface (replaced by more <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=4109\">immersive interface<\/a> mods and wz interface)<\/li>\n<li>cryptic persuasion system (simplified by a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=12367\">persuasion overhaul mod<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>missing travel agents : land travels, boats, mage guild teleport, mark\/recall (replaced by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=4520\">Cyrodiil Transportation Network<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>bland map (replaced by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=3354\">aged, color map<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>missing levitation (available in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=12466\">Supreme Magicka<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>clumsy tutorial (replaced by simple questions on a ship to Anvil in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=7275\">A new beginning<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>static prices and unlimited vendor gold amount (both fixed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=4432\">Living Economy<\/a>) <\/li>\n<li>repetitive scenery (the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alquier.org\/TES\/2006\/11\/weekly_mods_111206.html\" class=\"broken_link\">Unique Landscape<\/a> project brings more diversity to Cyrodiil)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And you also have the equivalent to some of the best Morrowind mods :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=4954\">gold weight<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=2277\">better encumbrance<\/a> mods<\/li>\n<li>eat, sleep and drink mods (fixed by mods such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=2436\">Hunger, Thirst, Sleep<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>texture replacement (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=14057\">Qarl&#8217;s is almost a standard<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>better bodies (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=16843\">TNR is astounding<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=4954\">illuminated windows<\/a><\/li>\n<li>more immersive sounds (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=7703\">Atmospheric Oblivion<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Finally, some mods bring back content from Morrowind into the Cyrodiil province directly :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=3281\">Books<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Unique armors and weapons (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=2955\">Old School Artifacts<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tesnexus.com\/downloads\/file.php?id=13945\">Creeper<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Guars (wild Guars exist in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alquier.org\/TES\/2007\/05\/martigens_monster_mod_v30.html\" class=\"broken_link\">MMM<\/a> and pack guars are now included in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alquier.org\/TES\/2007\/05\/tamriel_travelers.html\" class=\"broken_link\">Tamriel Travellers<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Dwemer spiders (included in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alquier.org\/TES\/2007\/05\/martigens_monster_mod_v30.html\" class=\"broken_link\">MMM<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unfortunately, many features were unique to Morrowind and cannot be replicated as demonstrated in this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bethsoft.com\/bgsforums\/index.php?showtopic=804641&amp;st=0&amp;start=0\">Bethesda forum thread<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;d say you can get very close to the same gaming experience.
