The first one had a more dynamic pose for Eowyn but the beast pose was awkward, the second one had a good pose of the beast but Eowyn was too rigid. I also experimented with another composition in this sketch, but it didn’t evolve in a good way either.

So this is another attempt as a paintover mixing both versions along with ideas I experimented with in the sketch. It isn’t where I want it to be yet – Eowyn’s hair is too rigid and the horse is muddy in the background – but it is getting there…

This one started as a practice from this stock photo from Reine-Haru at DeviantArt and eventually ended up more polished than I was expecting.

Not a finished product by far but not an exercise either… something in between.
